Green Spaces

The town currently has a good supply of open green space with Victoria Park and Playground. There are a few areas of vacant land that contain antisocial green spaces that could be revitalized to create a more scenic and alive town.

Circulation and Density

The A56 road runs through the centre of the town, which is a main road between Cheshire and Manchester. Because of this the town experiences heavy loads of vehicular circulation providing the opportunity to attract commuters. Similarly, the adjacent A5145 also experiences moderately heavy circulation linking Stretford to neighbouring towns and beyond to Stockport.

Water Ways

The bridgewater canal also runs through the town, though its aesthetic capacity is not yet realised with only a shabby walkway running alongside.

Stretford has a large mix of different land use, though at the same time the quality of space provided by the different uses is quite poor, denying the town of an attractive character. The Neighbouring towns of Chorlton and Hulme to the East and the Trafford Centre Complex to the North West however have a more concentrated land distribution, where Chorlton has a strong dining and retail mix, Hulme a business and retail mix and Trafford Centre with a large retail and entertainment mix. Any proposal should aim to address the defining character of the town to make it more attractive for visitors.
